Fox Lake, WI

Fox Lake Fishing Report – August 15, 2020

  • Water Temp – 78 to 84
  • Clarity – 4″ to 1′
  • Water Color: Chalky green
  • Weather – Cloudy, intermittent rain, Winds build to 10 mph from NW
  • Depths – All fish caught in under 4′ of water
  • Offshore pattern on rock humps/flats/points. Most productive VERY early morning before boat traffic/pressure. Had a 20 min window before a community hole got crowded during tournament.  We were boat #2, first boat on the spot.  Pulled in 2 keepers in the first 15 minutes.  All on slow rolled hollowbelly swimbait with jighead/hook with spinner
  • Second pattern was tight against hard cover/shoreline flipping
    • Got harder after wind kicked up. Boat control
  • 3rd pattern was a frog bite where pads and slop mixed.  Bites were in alleys, pockets, open water.
    • Smaller black frog most effective
  • Caught 20+ bass
  • Culled up once for final weight of 7.64 lbs… behind 2nd by .02 lbs…. behind 1st by .1 lbs  (ouch)
  • Lessons learned
    • All fish were in typical spots one would expect from Map study.
      • too often I overthink things, and look for alternatives, but I need to trust my map study more and just work the areas better to find the pattern.  Fish are usually where they should be
    • Had to work slowly to catch them.  (slow retrieve or flip right to them)
